Play Disney Parks App
Waiting in lines can be tedious, leading to cranky kids (and adults), but staring at individual smartphone screens isn’t exactly a bonding experience. Instead, download the free Play Disney Parks app from Google Play or the Apple Store and enjoy multiplayer interactions that keep the whole family amused. The more you interact with the app, the more its various elements “come to life.” Swipe right and left for items that appear just beyond the boundaries of the screen; watch for “Easter eggs” (little surprises) that pop up in the lands or queues; or listen to Disney music. There are games, challenges, trivia, and rewards and achievements for successful play. Most elements are triggered while you’re in the parks, making it a special “only at Disney” experience.

Translate Your Way Through World Showcase
Part of the fun when exploring Epcot is the immersion in different cultures represented in the World Showcase pavilions. Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Japan, Morocco, and France are beautifully detailed with signs and plaques, but how does a World Showcase traveler read the non-English elements if they don’t speak the language? Download the free Google Translate app and use its camera translation mode to “read” text you see in each pavilion, such as the Mandarin writing over the false door between House of Good Fortune’s real doors. Put the app into conversation mode and surprise Cast Members on Disney’s Cultural Representative Program or Cultural Exchange Program with a conversation in their own language. When they respond in their native tongue, the app will translate for you.

Do Theme Parks Without a Plan
With all the emphasis on planning, guests who like to “wing it” may feel the House of Mouse is no longer for them. But wait: you can visit without a plan. Arrive before park opening and ride the “biggies” without a FastPass+, use counter service instead of making dining reservations, and watch fireworks from less obvious places, such as Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom. Enter World Showcase at Epcot as soon as it opens, and return to Future World after 5 p.m. Start at the back of the other parks and work your way forward. Then, stay for the second parade or other nighttime show, if there is one. It will be much easier to get the best viewing spots.

Have an Allergy-Friendly Halloween Party
One of the highlights of the seasonal paid-for event Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the chance to go trick or treating at stations throughout the park. But what if an allergy or medical condition makes certain treats off-limits? When you pass through the designated entry for the event, inform the Cast Member handing out bags that there is an allergy in your group. You will be given a special bag that alerts Cast Members at the trick or treat stations, who will give you a token to redeem for allergy-friendly or non-food items. Then, stop at the first of two redemption locations you come to, enjoy a few treats, and redeem the rest of your tokens at the second location, usually in Town Square.
